- Any previous recipients of any AAUW national fellowship or grant are not eligible to apply for it again. ( except branch, or local awards, or community action grants)
- AAUW international fellowships are not open to the organization’s board of directors, committees, panels, task forces, employees, or current interns. Any person who holds a current award can apply for an election or appointment to boards, committees, panels, and task forces.
- Those applicants who were unsuccessful can reapply.
- Every woman including those who identify as women can apply for an AAUW international fellowship in any subject at a renowned university or for postdoctoral fellows, or research. The final judgment on the eligibility of the institution will be made by the AAUW.
To Be Eligible for an AAUW International Fellowship an Applicant Has to Meet the Following Criteria:
- The applicant must have citizenship in a country other than the U.S. or should have a nonimmigrant visa if living in the United States.
- Women who are citizens of the United States, permanent residents of the United States, dual citizens of the U.S., or any other nation now or at any point during the fellowship are not eligible to apply.
- One has to be proficient in English and confirm it by submitting English proficiency exams, transcripts from English-speaking institutions, or by taking exams.
- One who aspires to finish their education and return home to pursue a professional career.
- Applicant who intends to spend full-time on the suggested academic plan during the fellowship year.
- The applicant must hold an academic degree that is equal to a bachelor’s degree in the United States (pursued in the United States or abroad) by the application deadline.
- Those candidates who are seeking a doctorate or master’s professional degree must have applied to a well-known university for the fellowship year to be eligible for the AAUW international fellowship. They have to provide official confirmation with award acceptance paperwork from their university. Acceptance is not essential at the time of application.
- Certificates, associate degrees, and undergraduate degrees are not eligible.
- PhD, Ed.D., and other doctorates like research degrees are eligible for doctoral fellowships.
- During the application the postdoctoral candidate must provide documentation of their doctorate, have a doctorate recognized as a research degree or an M.F.A., and specify where they would want to conduct their research.
- Those who have applied for master's or first professional degree and doctorate programs have to be enrolled in a U.S accredited institution during the fellowship year.
- The members of Graduate Women International can apply for a restricted number of prizes to either study or do research abroad.
- Applicant has to be engaged in research or study for the whole year and may apply for the fellowship anytime during their program. Programs that end before April of the fellowship year are not eligible and a partial year of study or research is not funded by the AAUW international fellowships.
- AAUW international fellowships do not fund distance learning or online programs. AAUW will make the final decision on what qualifies for distance learning. However, applicants who are temporarily studying remotely due to COVID-19 precautions are accepted.

What Are the Documents That Need to Be Submitted With the Application?
The applicant has to complete the AAUW international fellowships and get access to it from the website. The application will have these things:
- Fulfilling the eligibility criteria.
- Candidate’s name as mentioned in the passport
- Three LORS from professors or professional colleagues.

- Academic transcripts with certified English translation.
- Postdoctoral applicants must provide proof of bachelor’s degree
- An official report from the TOEFL test score on the waiver request
- Letter of admission from the proposed institution of study or research.
What Funding Does AAUW International Fellowships Not Cover?
The fellowship stipend is subject to 14 or 30 percent tax but they do not cover:
- Purchase of any equipment.
- Overhead cost.
- Tuition for dependent’s education.
- Publication costs
- Indirect cost.
- Research assistants
- Previous expenditures
- Deficits or repayment of loans
- Travel to or from a fellow’s home country
