The applications are now open for the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) at higher education institutes in Africa. The fellowship program is partially funded including the overall cost of the program and is for scholars to complete their educational projects at African Universities. Since 2013, 395 African emigrants have been already awarded fellowship programs in Africa universities in six countries including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. Males and females both can apply through the fellowship program.

About African Fellowship Program

The program is offered by the Institute of International Education (a non-profit organization) which organizes and controls the program in co-operation with United States International University-Africa which provides help through the advisory council. The program has been funded by Carnegie Corporation of New York. Applicants are recommended to apply in institutions equal in status to their home institution.

Required points – Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship:

  • Quality of proposed project (innovative and practical) which included a clear mission of what to accomplish and the project should contribute to strengthening higher education incontinent.
  • Evidence of mutual benefit for both host institutions and scholars.
  • Potential for impact (explanation on primary impact).
  • Project requests should include the problems to be solved, goals of the project and the role of scholars.
  • The scholar’s field, skills, and proficiency should suit the impact of the project.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Born in and African country evidenced by the data on Scholar’s Passport
  • Living in the United States or Canada (emigrants of Africa)
  • Have a terminal degree (highest degree available in any academic field)
  • Should be employed at an officially recognized college or university

Ineligibility:

Any academic rank is allowed except postdocs.

Required Documents:

  • Personal statement
  • Administrative experience
  • A letter of recommendation/support from an administrator of an equal or higher degree from home institution is needed.
  • Information about academic qualification including transcripts

Eligible types of projects:

  • Curriculum co-development
  • Research collaboration
  • Graduate student mentoring and training

Partially Funded scholarship benefits:

  • $150 per day stipend.
  • Visa costs if are required.
  • Health insurance coverage.
  • Round-trip travel.
  • Transportation costs.
  • Opportunities to apply for funding to cover knowledge related activities and workshop attendance.

Host institution cost-share:

  • Lodging
  • Meals
  • Transportation from and to the airport in Africa
  • Support the fellow and report on his/her visit

Deadline:

9th December 2019 is the last date for the Partially Funded Fellowship Program at African institutions.
