For those interested in a UK visa for professional purposes, IELTS for UKVI is required. One of the Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) approved by the UK home office is IELTS for UKVI, which stands for IELTS for UK Visa and Immigration. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must take this exam in order to apply to UK universities, colleges, or jobs. Unlike the regular IELTS exam, IELTS for UKVI has four sections focusing on Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking in order to assess the level of English proficiency of Test takers. All four sections have a different pattern, score, difficulty level, and content as well. Applicants can use IELTS for UKVI test scores to prove their English proficiency for registration with UK Visa and Immigration.
As part of the Points-based System (PBS), UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) evaluates the level of language proficiency of visa applicants by using the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Five tiers of PBS allow migrants to apply to work or study in the UK. Applicants are required to prove that they are capable of writing and speaking English if they are applying under Tier 1 or 2. The IELTS English language test can serve as proof.
