These opportunities provide early-career artists a head start and help mid-career artists raise their profile. Artist residencies also provide artists the opportunity to travel, live, and work in some of the most influential places for their art.
Artist Trust Fellowship
Artists Trust Fellowships are designed to recognize artistic achievement, dedication to an artistic discipline, and potential for further professional development. 8 grants of $10,000 each will be awarded in music, media, literary, and craft disciplines in even-numbered years and to emerging fields and cross-disciplinary, performing, visual traditional, and folk arts in odd-numbered years.
Applicants must be practicing artists, 18 years of age or older by the application deadline, generative artists, and residents of Washington State at the time of application and at the time the award is made.
Creative Capital Awards
Creative Capital makes a multi-year commitment to its grant recipients, providing them with tailored financial and advisory support to enable the success of their projects while building the capacity to sustain their careers. The value of our grants is up to $90,000.
For each project, we provide up to $50,000 of award money (direct funding) and an additional suite of career development services worth $40,000. Applicants must be above 25 years of age and have at least 5 years of work experience.
Beckman Emerging Artist Fellowship Program
The Beckman Emerging Artist Fellowship Program awards fellowships each year to deserving and talented artists in music, dance, theatre, literature, media, and/or visual arts. Artists will receive a monetary award of $3,500 to purchase supplies and cover other costs while developing their projects.
Professional growth and development opportunities will also be provided during the 1-year fellowship. The Fellowship Program strives to introduce and provide experience, connections, and relationships with professional art institutions and professional artists in Central Indiana. Artists should have 1-3 years of experience in their field.
MacDowell Colony Fellowship
The MacDowell Colony is known as an artist colony. It is located in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Approximately 300 fellowships or residencies are awarded each year to artists in seven disciplines: architecture, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theater, and visual arts.
The fellowship includes exclusive use of a private studio, accommodation, and three prepared meals per day for two weeks to two months. McDowell encourages applications from emerging and established artists representing the widest possible range of perspectives and demographics.
Hedgebrook Writer in Residence
The Writers in Residence Program is Hedgebrook's main program, supporting fully-funded residencies of approximately 40 writers at the retreat each year. It is on Whidbey Island, about thirty-five miles northwest of Seattle.
Situated on 48 acres of woods and meadows overlooking Puget Sound with views of Mount Rainier, the retreat hosts writers from around the world for a two- to four-week residency, at no cost to the author. This residency is open to women writers across all genres! There are four writers in residence at a time, each living in a handmade cottage.
