JAF Program Overview:

The JAF program, part of the ACIAR Capacity Building Program, receives substantial funding. It provides agricultural researchers with PhD and Master’s scholarships through the Australia Awards program. Currently, there are approximately 38 JAFs enrolled in 18 different universities across Australia, with applications being invited annually.

Application Process:

The next round of JAF applications, starting in 2024, will be open from February 1 to May 3, 2023. This round emphasizes equal participation from ACIAR partner nations, including Africa, South Asia, East and Southeast Asia, and the Pacific.

To apply, submit an online JAF program application through the Online Australia Scholarships Information System (OASIS). The application process allows flexibility, enabling candidates to create, modify, and add supporting material until the specified closing date.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for selection, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Contribute to an ACIAR project within 24 months of application.
  • Possess credentials comparable to an Australian bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Be actively engaged in a cooperative research project supported by ACIAR.
  • Obtain support from Project Leaders in both Australia and the partner nation.
  • Secure permission from the hiring institution for the duration of the postgraduate degree.
  • Receive written endorsement from prospective research supervisor(s).
  • Have a permanent job, not a temporary one.
