Mehwish Abbasi was selected for International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) in 2014, she was the only Pakistani female to participate in IVLP-2014 with journalists from other 9 Muslim countries. She visited UNESCO in Paris and 5 states of United States of America including Washington DC during IVLP, her exposure enriched her skills as writer and journalist. Being an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumna, she served the youth of Sindh especially young journalists as a mentor and organized several training workshops for young journalists and writers, such programs were supported by Pakistan US Alumni Network. She is also current Youth group director of Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network Jamshoro chapter. Miss Mehwish organized the first conference on “Empowering Women in Media & Journalism” which was highly appreciated by Journalists, activists and women leaders of Pakistan, this conference was the first type of conference which focused on training workshop, field reporting trip for young female journalists and mass communication students, this project was supported by USEFP and Pak-US Alumni Network under the small grant for alumni, this project concluded with a mega conference which was attended by hundreds of writers, journalists, and activists throughout Pakistan. After her return from the IVLP program, she has been also serving as a mentor to the young and enthusiastic girls from the entire province including her own small village “Bandhi”.

Mehwish believes achieving success or creating through to heights doesn’t need belongingness from an extremely settled family or urban state. It even doesn’t need one to be a male to cross tough thresholds. Rising from the society of feudalism and narrow-mindedness, fighting for a separate school for girls, hitting bulls-eye on each opportunity that came in her way. All the above is the first and the only female journalist from Sindh to receive the Women Excellence Award in 2015. She was awarded with Dukhtar e Pakistan Award, Benazir Award, Hands Media Award and Writer Excellency award. She has written more than 2500 articles and columns for different newspapers and magazines of Pakistan. Mehwish Abbasi is a postgraduate from the University of Sindh Jamshoro.
