MEPI Scholarship 2023

The US-based MEPI Student Leaders Program is operated in a consortium with Georgetown University and other university partners under the auspices of the university's Institute for Global Studies. Exceptional college students from the Middle East and North Africa are nominated to participate by U.S. embassies and selected by the U.S. Department of State. UD has welcomed 200+ participants from many cultures, religions, and academic disciplines as a part of the program.

For more than 16 years, the Tomorrow's Leaders Program has partnered with pre-eminent American-style universities in the MENA region to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective leadership. By attending world-class universities such as the American University in Cairo, the American University of Beirut, and the Lebanese American University, which are rooted in the liberal arts tradition, tomorrow's leaders develop strengths in critical thinking and find creative solutions to the challenges they face. What is the MEPI Student Leaders Program?

The Student Leader Program is a rigorous leadership and civic engagement program for 60 competitively selected undergraduate and postgraduate students between the ages of 20 and 24 from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The Program Covers the following:

  • Full tuition coverage (for a maximum period of four academic years)
  • Housing (double room occupancy)
  • University health insurance
  • Entrance visa and residency permit fees
  • Monthly living allowance
  • A yearly book allowance
  • Laptop for the duration of the program
  • Two yearly round-trip tickets from and to your home country
  • Opportunity for a study abroad semester in the U.S. (subject to maintaining a CGPA of 3.0 and above)
  • Civic leadership and career-oriented workshops
  • Internship opportunities
  • Faculty mentorship and guidance
  • Professional training on leadership and gender.
  • Academic advising, mentoring services, and learning services

Eligibility

  • Be a current high school senior or student who graduated from high school in 2023. Be a current high school senior or student who graduated from high school in 2022 or 2023 in Yemen, Syria, Libya, and Iraq;
  • Demonstrate strong academic credentials;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English with a minimum score of 55 for TOEFL iBT less than two years old;
  • Demonstrate maturity, flexibility, and leadership abilities;
  • You should maintain a high GPA and pass high school leaving exams in the final year;
  • Be able to begin the program in August/September of 2024;
  • Demonstrate financial need in accordance with the Tomorrow's Leaders Program and host university financial aid policies; And
  • Scholars who qualify may be eligible for up to one year of intensive English language training if necessary.
