Nature of National Post-Doctoral Fellowship:

- A Ph.D./M.D./M.S. degree from a recognized University is required. Those awaiting the award of the degree may apply but receive a lower fellowship until qualification.
- The upper age limit is 35 years at the time of application, with a 5-year age relaxation for specific categories.
- NPDF can be availed only once in a candidate's career.
- The mentor must hold a regular academic/research position in a recognized institution in India and possess a Ph.D. in Science or Engineering.
- A mentor can have a maximum of two SERB NPDF fellows simultaneously.
- Applicants of NPDF, SRG, and EMR can submit proposals only once in a calendar year in any of these schemes.
