Eligibility Criteria of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme

• Students must be newly admitted to pursue a full-time Ph.D. Program.
• If the student has not taken fresh admission then they can apply only if they get admission to other full-time Ph.D. programs
• The student requirement is non-restrictive and allows students of all nationalities, ethnic backgrounds, and religious and political affinities to apply.
• They must provide proof that their university education was taught in English. If not, they will be required to provide an English Language Proficiency Certificate.
• Students can choose one of eight advanced universities to study.

How to Apply Process?

• All students must apply separately to the University and the Fellowship Program Students must first apply for a fellowship.
• To apply for a Fellowship, students must complete the initial application process through the Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme Electronic System (HKPFSES).
• Once your student submits the initial application they will receive a reference number to proceed.
• Using the reference number, students can apply to a maximum of two universities and two programs (depending on preference).
• Your reference number must be mentioned in the University application form.
• As every university has different application deadlines, it is advisable to obtain your reference number by completing the initial application form as soon as possible.

Eligibility

According to the source, Candidates who are seeking admission as new full-time Ph.D. students into the following eight universities should be eligible to apply regardless of their country of origin, prior work experience, and ethnic background.

• City University of Hong Kong
• Hong Kong Baptist University
• Lingnan University
• The Chinese University of Hong Kong
• The Education University of Hong Kong
• The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
• The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
• The University of Hong Kong

Fellowship Award

Fellowship includes:

• Annual stipend of Hong Kong $325,200 (approximately US$41,690)
• Conference and research travel allowance of Hong Kong $13,600/year (approximately US$1,740) for a period of three years.
• For awardees who require more than three years to complete the Ph.D. degree, additional support may be provided by the selected universities.
