In India, the prevailing perception of a girl child as a burden often hinders her education and pushes her into early marriages. To counter this, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has instituted the Indira Gandhi Single Girl Child Scholarship for PG programs, aiming to facilitate the education of single girls. This scholarship provides financial assistance of INR 36,200 annually to eligible candidates pursuing post-graduate studies, with the stipulation that they must be under 30 years old.
A crucial initiative to support our nation's girl children in attaining quality education is the Indira Gandhi Single Girl Child Scholarship. Successful applicants receive Rs. 36,200 for a two-year non-professional post-graduate degree.
The application process is exclusively online, and candidates must register before the deadline of January 17, 2024. The scholarship's renewal is contingent upon the academic performance of the scholar.
While the UGC covers tuition fees, it does not extend its support to healthcare or housing expenses. Recipients receive the scholarship funds through a UGC-designated agency, starting from the date of enrollment in the first year of the PG program.
The agency requires documentation, including the award letter, a joining report, and the recipient's contact details.
The scholarship aims to alleviate the financial burden of eligible candidates by providing Rs. 36,200 annually for tuition fees throughout the two-year PG course. This amount is disbursed monthly through Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) to the recipient's account. Notably, the scholarship exclusively covers tuition fees and does not extend to additional expenses, such as hostel fees or medical costs, to offer consistent support to the candidate throughout their enrollment period.
Interested applicants must submit the following documents with their Indira Gandhi Single Child Scholarship applications:
