About the JYU Scholarship program in Finland

Please note that no tuition is charged if you:

  • You are participating in an exchange program (regardless of your citizenship)
  • Finnish or Swedish language courses are available
  • You began studying before August 1st, 2017.
  • The admissions process for doctoral studies is underway
  • Your citizenship is EU/EEA/Swiss
  • have a valid residence permit in Finland.

JYU Scholarship Program for students liable to pay tuition fees:

Students who have achieved high success during their master's studies in Jyväskylä are eligible for scholarships covering tuition fees. JYU scholarships are available if you are.

  1. Interested in studying at JYU's international master's degree programs.
  2. liable to pay tuition fees.

Scholarship program in Finland is awarded according to the admission requirements of the program concerned. Each Master's program will offer the following scholarships starting in 2023.

  1. 2 scholarships, which cover 100% of the tuition fee for two years.
  2. 4 scholarships, which cover 50% of the tuition fee for two years.

During the first academic year, study progress determines whether or not you will be awarded a scholarship for the second academic year. A minimum of 55 ECTS credits during the first academic is required to receive the scholarship also for the second year.

Field-based Finland scholarships offered by faculties:

Non-Finnish master's degree students in the English-taught programs of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science who do not qualify for financial aid through Kela (the Finnish Social Security Institution) may apply for a scholarship for living expenses.

After arriving at the University of Jyväskylä, students admitted to a master's degree program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Science can apply for this grant. For two academic years, the master's scholarship in Finland will cover living expenses (EUR 500/month). Two payments per year are made under the scholarship.

Students will be expected to update their study registers by the end of February 2023 to show their progress in their studies, so make sure to upload your completed credits on time. You will only be eligible for the scholarship for the second academic year if you have completed a minimum of 55 ECTS credits during your first study year (by 31 July 2023) and have a valid residence permit (EU/EEA citizens do not need a residence permit).

A Fulbright-Jyväskylä Graduate Award is offered by the Fulbright Foundation Finland and the University of Jyväskylä. An American student admitted to one of the University's Master's degree programs will receive the award.
