The number and level of these international scholarships awarded each year varies depending on the available funding.

It recognizes the academic achievement of outstanding students around the world by devoting more than $20 million annually to international graduate students in awards, scholarships, and other forms of financial aid.

The Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award is a one-time, merit-based entrance scholarship awarded to qualified students when they have been offered admission to the University Of British Columbia. Students selected for this award demonstrate strength academically and demonstrate participation outside of the classroom.

Eligibility for University Of British Columbia Scholarships

• First, you must speak and understand English, the language of instruction at UBC. All prospective students are required to demonstrate a minimum level of English before admission.
• All countries of the world are eligible.
• Are new to UBC, entering directly from secondary school or post-secondary (university or college).
• First, you be an international student who will be studying at UBC on a Canadian Study Permit (Student Visa). (Changes in your citizenship status will affect your IMES eligibility.)
• Demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and intellectual promise as well as impressive extracurricular and community involvement.
• Will not be nominated for the need-and-merit-based International Scholar Award.
