Applications are now open for the University of Edinburgh Scholarship in the year 2022. This is a partially funded scholarship. The scholarship offers Ph.D. programs in all subjects which are open to all UK and Overseas students around the globe.

Applicants must have recently completed a Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Political Science, Islamic Studies, Religious Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Human Geography).

University of Edinburgh Scholarship:

The scholarship is specially designed for highly talented students for research at the University of Edinburgh.

The University of Edinburgh provides assistance for students funded by SAAS, SLC, Research Councils and other funding bodies, administers student support and loan payments, liaises with government funding bodies, advises students and staff on all matters relating to tuition fees and funding, asses students fee status i.e. eligibility for home/EU or overseas fees, administers the Discretionary, Childcare and Travel Funds, certifies Canadian and US loan applications, sets up guidelines and procedures for new awards.

University of Edinburgh Scholarship Covers:

  • Studentships will cover tuition fees and stipends of £15,690 per year for the 2021-2022 academic year, increasing in line with UKRI rates.

Eligibility Criteria:

UK and overseas students will be eligible for this award if they begin their studies in the 2021-2022 academic year, starting their program in January 2022. In addition to conducting research, the successful candidate will contribute to the full range of activities of the Centre, including its outreach program. Studentships are awarded for a maximum of three years, subject to satisfactory progress.

Essential qualifications

  1. The UK 2:1 Honours degree and the Master's degree in a relevant discipline, or their international equivalents
  2. Research skills that have been proven
  3. Possesses the ability to conduct research that may involve both textual analysis and engage with individuals and communities
  4. IELTS: 7.0 total (at least 6.0 in each module) or TOEFL-iBT: 100 total (at least 20 in each module)
  5. Presentation and communication skills are excellent
  6. The ability to work as a team
  7. Working within a deadline
  8. Religion, culture, and politics are all aspects of diplomacy

Qualifications that are desirable

  1. Language skills relevant to the region
  2. Knowledge of how to explain research to diverse audiences
  3. Website design experience
  4. Working knowledge of the media

How to Apply for the University of Edinburgh Scholarship:

Application materials should be emailed to thealwaleedcentre@ed.ac.uk by 5 pm BST on Friday 3rd September 2021 and should include the following:

  • Please include a one-page covering letter
  • Curriculum vitae (maximum of two pages)
  • Guidelines for writing a research proposal can be found here (2000 words).
  • Please submit a sample paper of 2000 words (for example, an excerpt from a thesis, an article, a blog post, etc.).
  • Referencing two sources
  • Transcripts of academic papers
  • In addition to the research project, candidates will also have to outline how they hope to contribute to the Alwaleed Centre in general.
