Currently, there is an opportunity to apply for an internationally competitive PhD scholarship that aims to understand how wild mammalian carnivores adapt to changes in their environments, especially within the context of rewilding.

About University Of Hull International Scholarships

A Ph.D. study is currently being carried out as part of the REWILD Research Cluster at the University of Hull (you can find more information on the cluster further down under "About the cluster"). As a result, rewilding is a controversial topic because many programs focus on carnivores. Negative opinions can severely limit such programs, which can result in a waste of time, money, and effort when implementing them.

The main focus of the research work will therefore be on the psychological and behavioral aspects of wild carnivores' ability to adapt to new environments, as well as how human perception of these species can help to facilitate the rewilding of these species.

Benefits of University Of Hull International Scholarships

1. For successful candidates for Ph.D. studies, the University of Hull will provide full funding.
2. A fee waiver and a maintenance grant/stipend will be provided for three (full-time) or five (part-time) years during which the Ph.D. candidate will conduct research.
3. The fee waiver will be £4,500 (Home fee), and the maintenance grant will be £15,609. Each year, it increases in line with the UKRI's recommended stipend allowance.

Eligibility Criteria of University Of Hull International Scholarships

The university is seeking a student with the following general qualities:

1. Wildlife is one of my greatest passions.
2. Working with trail cameras is one of my most rewarding experiences.
3. Being physically and mentally fit to work outdoors.
4. Having an automobile and medical insurance.
5. Possessing a valid driver's license.
6. Owning a rural-ready vehicle.
7. Experience in the lab as well as in the field, and
8. You should have experience, or be willing to learn, data analysis using R. Understanding structural equation modeling or willingness to learn it is also highly desirable. As a final point, there are many potential risks associated with fieldwork (e.g., accidental injury) and it must be done even when the weather is not optimal (e.g., when it is cold and raining). A successful student must therefore be willing to undertake such a challenging task safely and responsibly, and perhaps for exceptionally long hours (e.g., dawn to dusk).
